In this feature, get to know some of our team at Sue Lambert Trust. This time we meet Jessie, our Finance Manager, who loves to dance, garden and travel slowly.
Working life
What lead you to your role at Sue Lambert Trust?
I started my career in operations and finance in London over a decade ago. Throughout my career, I’ve worked with a wide variety of businesses, from tech startups to hospitality and e-commerce. It was after volunteering as a Trustee for a local charity that I realised I could combine my business experience with my passion for meaningful work.
I was drawn to Sue Lambert Trust because of the charity’s deeply human mission— supporting people who have experienced sexual abuse and violence. I was especially moved by the long-term goal: to make themselves redundant by working toward prevention through education and awareness. That kind of bold, purpose-driven approach really resonated with me, and I knew I wanted to be a part of it.
How would you summarise your role at Sue Lambert Trust?
In short, as the finance manager, I’m responsible for the money. Alongside Clive our CEO and the rest of the Senior Management Team, I help set the annual budget and manage all day-to-day financial operations. I provide clear, accurate, and actionable reporting to both the Board of Trustees and our internal teams, so they have the information they need to make informed decisions. I also ensure we’re tracking how funding is allocated and used across our various activities, helping us stay accountable and transparent.
Ultimately, it’s about making sure we’re financially sound so we can continue to support those who need us most.
What do you like most about working for Sue Lambert Trust?
As well as feeling strongly aligned with the charity’s mission, what I love most about working at Sue Lambert Trust is the people. I can honestly say the team here is the most passionate, thoughtful, and kind group of individuals I’ve ever had the pleasure of working with.
There’s a real sense of purpose in everything we do, and it’s incredibly motivating to be surrounded by people who care so deeply not just about the work, but about each other too.
Home life
What do you like doing in your spare time, what are your hobbies or interests outside of work?
Over the past couple of years, I’ve really fallen in love with dancing. I do a few classes a week, mostly Latin-inspired styles and no matter what kind of day I’ve had, dancing always lifts my mood.
In the spring and summer, you’ll usually find me in the garden tending to my thirteen types of roses (and many other beautiful flowers!). It’s my peaceful little haven. I’ve also recently started helping a friend with their beehives, and I’m really enjoying learning about bees, they’re absolutely fascinating creatures although I’m not enjoying getting stung.
Outside of that, I’m happiest spending time with my husband and our three dogs -Bertie, Arthur, and Alice—who keep life full of love and a little bit of chaos!
What’s your favourite food or meal?
That’s easy. A Yasai Katsu Curry from Wagamama and a side of their chili squid. I have been ordering that for 20 years and I’m still not bored of it!
What’s your favourite place to visit in Norfolk?
For my birthday last year, we visited the Bishop’s Garden at Norwich Cathedral during one of their open days and I absolutely loved it. That whole area has such a peaceful, timeless feel, and I could easily lose hours wandering around, admiring the beautiful old houses and their gardens. I’m especially drawn to the roses. Some of them are incredibly fragrant and clearly have been growing there for generations.
If you could go anywhere in the world, where would it be?
I don’t tend to get wanderlust for specific places, but I’ve always wanted to go on a Scandinavian cruise. There’s something about the combination of dramatic landscapes, cosy culture, and that whole hygge feeling that really appeals to me.
For me, the mode of transport is just as important as the destination, so the idea of exploring somewhere beautiful while travelling slowly and comfortably really captures my imagination.
