We are proud to add our name to this letter from After Exploitation. Please read on and find out why damaging narratives about child sexual exploitation must end.

Together with around 70 other organisations, Sue Lambert Trust has publicly signed a letter of support, calling for divisive narratives and sensationalism surrounding child sexual exploitation in the UK to end. And instead, for the spotlight to be directed onto the very real needs of survivors.

We, as a specialist charity supporting survivors of sexual violence and abuse, back this call. And we urge our government and people in positions of power to instead move the national conversation in a way that puts the needs of victims and survivors of child sexual exploitation first.

Recent narratives, in the media and between political parties, have weaponised the experiences of child exploitation victims and survivors.  This must end.

At Sue Lambert Trust, we support 600+ survivors in Norfolk every year, including people who live with the trauma of historic childhood abuse. We will always put the needs of our clients first and speak up for survivors.

It’s time to rapidly address the most urgent challenges. That means ensuring survivors, and those who live with the trauma of non-recent abuse, have access to specialist support services, with robust funding awarded to those organisations and charities who are best placed to deliver it.

It’s time to put a stop to these divisive narratives that do nothing to help victims or the communities at the centre of them.

And it’s time that people in positions of power put survivors first.
