In this feature we spend time getting to know some of the team that make Sue Lambert Trust who we are. In this edition of getting to know… we interviewed Helen who is our Groundwork Manager.
Working life
1. What lead you to your role working at Sue Lambert Trust?
I worked in the Criminal Justice System for a long time before coming to Sue Lambert Trust and over recent years developed a real interest in mental health and wellbeing through the roles I had. I could see the value in working with trauma and the real difference it can make to people’s lives.
2. How would you summarise your role at SLT?
I work as the Groundwork Manager at Sue Lambert Trust. We are a small team offering practical support to clients to assist with stabilisation. This supports the therapeutic work that clients do and assists with recovery and growth. We offer help with practical needs around things like benefit applications, finances, and accessing health and wellbeing services. We also offer access to online trauma informed courses with Carolyn Spring and the Emotional Skills Group which is a 6 session course designed to provide a safe space to learn about the impact of trauma and how it can affect us.
3. What do you like most about working for Sue Lambert Trust?
I love the care that is provided by everyone at Sue Lambert Trust to support clients in their recovery and providing services that so many people need and have been unable to gain elsewhere.
Home life
1. What do you like doing in your spare time, what are your hobbies or interests outside of work?
I love exercise and being in nature, so I spend a lot of my free time walking, swimming, cycling and running. My favourite thing is going to the beach with family/friends and swimming in the sea – we’re so lucky to have beautiful beaches on our doorstep in Norfolk.
2. What’s your favourite food or meal?
A roast dinner is always a winner with me.
3. What’s your favourite place to visit in Norfolk?
I love Wells-Next-the-Sea – the big open beach, colourful beach huts, the woods and the fish and chips!
4. If you could go anywhere in the world, where would it be?
Beaches and mountains are my thing, so anywhere I can combine the two is great – I think New Zealand would be the big one – although, I also love Snowdonia and Scotland!
