Between 5 - 11 February our supporters signed up to take part in a 24-hour sponsored silence, fundraising for our free therapeutic counselling services. Together, they raised more than £2,000 and we can't thank them enough.

We challenged our supporters to a 24-hour silence, asking people to fundraise for vital, specialist counselling sessions and support services, which we make freely available to survivors of sexual abuse.

A sponsored silence was also chosen to help us raise awareness of the devastating impact of sexual violence and abuse; a crime that keeps people suffering in silence for years and in many cases, decades.

We’re really pleased to reveal that the #GoSilentforSLT challenge raised £2,145 in total, which will help to fund 40 hours of free one-to-one therapeutic support with a professionally trained counsellor.

Clive Evans, our CEO thanks everyone who took part: “This was a new fundraiser for us, and we can’t thank our supporters enough for going silent for 24-hours, which we know is no easy feat.

“At Sue Lambert Trust, our professional counsellors and support team listen to survivors when they feel ready to talk and to heal.  Talking and listening is so intrinsic to what we do here and is a vital part of our clients’ healing process.  By falling silent for 24-hours, our supporters have not only raised a brilliant amount of money for our charity, but they have highlighted how survivors of sexual violence are often silenced.  Feelings of shame, guilt, or fear of not being believed prevent people from speaking out, and for some of our clients, they have lived with their trauma for decades before they feel ready to ask for the support they deserve.

“The important message we wanted to share is that it is never too late to speak out and to get professional, specialist support to heal. There is no time limit; even if many years have passed, when you feel ready to talk, help is available.”

Sue Lambert Trust team members joined in with the sponsored silence challenge

‘Go Silent for Sue Lambert Trust’ took place during Sexual Abuse and Sexual Violence Awareness Week (5 – 11 February 2024) which aims to provide an opportunity for any organisation or individual to engage in dialogue about sexual abuse and violence – a topic that is not often spoken about.

The money raised will enable us to support people from all over Norfolk who self-refer to Sue Lambert Trust.

Clive adds; “At the end of their therapy journey with us, many clients say they wish they’d spoken up sooner. Our counselling and support services enable and empower people to go on to live happier, more fulfilled lives, and everyone deserves that chance. And when someone bravely reaches out to us, we want to be able to offer counselling and support to them, instantly, rather than having to explain there is a waiting list. There is still some way to go, but we are determined to be there for anyone who needs us, as soon as possible.”
